“Young people are young people.”
I remember Pastor saying these words. Maybe as a young person I won’t understand it, but he was right. Elizabeth B. Hurlock says, “Adolescence has been thought of as a period of ‘storm and stress’- a time of heightened emotional tension resulting from the physical and glandular changes that are taking place.”
Teenagers look at themselves as adults. They think they are old enough to decide for their selves. They begin to have new attitudes toward members of the opposite sex. Longing starts. Well, it’s normal, since God created us this way. We are humans. We want to love and be loved. As young as I am, I’ve been in love many times. But one experience changed my outlook towards relationship…
He was the man I’ve been asking God to be the person I’ll exchange vows with. My feelings were no secret to him for it was candidly expressed. Sadly, the emotion made me do things that shouldn’t be. I became aggressive. One day, they were all revealed. I know I cannot keep it hidden forever. I wasn’t just prepared that it will happen too soon.
Proverbs 18:22 says that he who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord. Let me emphasize the first part. It shows that first move must be done by men. I should have controlled my emotions. As Proverbs 14:3 says, “Above all things, guard your heart for it is the well spring of life.” Young people can relate with this. We are immature, easily driven by our insides.
Then I realized the key to contentment. All my longings will be satisfied. I just need to focus in serving God. He said in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” He promised that if I delight myself to Him, He will give me the desires of my heart (Psalm 37:4). I am His daughter. My loving Father will give me the best, and it is yet to come. It will be worth the wait since “He has made everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).”
Young people, let us altogether walk a journey of setting our hearts on seeking God. It is God who assigns us our portions. “Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires (Song of Songs 3:5).” Love is a wonderful thing but we should not be in a hurry in pursuing it. We should not force it but let it adevelop at its on rate. Love should wait for its proper time.
